Careers at eSkolr

Build the AI that Indian schools can trust

Every student in a school deserves a tutor who knows their textbook by heart — and every teacher deserves their evenings back. We are a small team building both: the doubt-solver, and the twenty things around it that a school used to do by hand.

2,000+ textbooksprepared for schools, chapter by chapter

What we’re building

Not a chatbot. A school’s whole AI layer — grounded in its own books.

eSkolr reads a school’s textbooks once. That one act of understanding powers everything below: a student’s doubt answered with the page number, a teacher’s homework marked from a photo of a notebook, a question paper in the board’s pattern, a parent’s weekly view of how their child is doing. Schools subscribe per student; students, teachers and parents use it every day. Every item here is live in the product.

For students
  • Doubts answered from the textbook
  • Maths, step by step
  • The diagram from the book
  • Flashcards for every chapter
  • A weekly study plan
  • Practice tests they make themselves
  • English, Hindi and Hinglish
For teachers
  • Homework set and marked
  • Question papers in the board pattern
  • Tests, scheduled and graded
  • Lesson plans from the chapter
  • Confusion heatmap
  • Syllabus tracker and timetable
  • Report cards with drafted remarks
For parents and school leaders
  • A parent portal
  • Notices and diary notes
  • Progress that is measured
  • School-wide analytics
  • Private by design
  • Onboarding without an IT project

That is a lot of product for a small team. It is also why the work here is never a sandbox — and why we are hiring.

The actual work

Problems you would work on

No made-up exercises. These are the problems on our board right now — the ones that decide whether a student trusts the answer and whether a school renews.

Engineering

If you write code

01

Read a textbook whose PDF font is broken

Many Hindi textbooks are typeset in legacy fonts, so the text you extract is gibberish. Turning that into clean Unicode the search can understand — and keeping citations lined up with the printed page — is a real, unglamorous, essential problem.

02

Mark a handwritten answer from a phone photo

A student photographs their notebook; we read the handwriting, mark the answer against the scheme, flag the words we were unsure of and send borderline cases to the teacher. Every piece of that can go wrong in an interesting way.

03

Find “question 4 of exercise 10.1”

Semantic search cannot see numbers — “10.1” and “10.9” look identical to it. Resolving a numbered reference to the exact exercise, and honestly saying “not in this book” when it isn’t, is the difference between a tutor and a guesser.

04

Turn a chapter into a board-pattern question paper

Sections, marks, question types, a printable A4 paper and a separate answer key with a marking scheme — generated from the chapter, laid out so a school can photocopy it on Monday.

05

Make 300 students on one GPU feel instant

Retrieval, reranking and generation all compete for the same hardware. Caching that never serves one student another’s answer, streaming, and knowing exactly where the seconds go.

06

Keep School A invisible to School B — in the database itself

Multi-school isolation is enforced with row-level security in PostgreSQL, below the application, so a bug in app code cannot leak a school’s data. Every new table and worker has to respect it.

07

Draw the figure instead of describing it

When a Maths question needs a construction or a graph, the answer should come with one — computed exactly, drawn on the client, and refused outright rather than drawn wrong.

08

Answer in Hinglish without losing the page number

A student asks in Roman-script Hindi about an English chapter. Retrieve in the book’s language, answer in the student’s, keep the citation, and score confidence fairly across scripts.

School partnerships

If you open doors

01

Get 20 minutes with a principal who has heard 40 EdTech pitches

Most of them were sold to parents over the school’s head. Ours is built for the school. Learning to say that in one sentence — on a phone, at a gate, on WhatsApp — is the job.

02

Demo on their book, not ours

Ask the principal for the chapter their students find hardest, and answer it live with the page number. Then show what happens to that doubt when the book doesn’t cover it.

03

Turn a free trial into a first invoice

A 14-day trial with real students and real teachers. Your work is making sure the school actually uses it in those two weeks — and that the right people see the results.

04

Build a territory from zero

Register leads, work a pipeline, know which schools are 200–1,500 students and which board they follow. The first associates define how eSkolr sells in their city.

Why eSkolr

Small team. Real schools. Your name on the work.

We won’t list ping-pong tables. Here is what joining an early-stage company like ours actually gives you.

Your work reaches real classrooms

eSkolr is live in schools. Features you ship are used by students and teachers the same week — and you hear back from them.

A problem worth your time

Millions of Indian students get stuck on a doubt with no one to ask. We are building the tutor that knows their exact textbook — and the tools around it that give teachers their evenings back.

A small team, no layers

You work directly with the founder. Decisions are made in a conversation, not a committee, and your opinion on the product is expected, not tolerated.

Remote-first, IST hours

We work from wherever we work best, overlapping on Indian Standard Time. Registered office in Faridabad, Haryana; the team is spread across India.

A path, not just a post

Interns who do well are offered full-time roles. Partnership associates who bring schools on board move to salaried positions. We would rather grow people than replace them.

Privacy taken seriously

We hold data about minors on behalf of schools. Everyone who joins is trained on how we handle it under the DPDP Act, 2023 — it is part of the job, not an afterthought.

How we work

The five things we hire for

These are not posters on a wall. They are the questions we ask in interviews, in code review and in every sales conversation.

  1. 1

    The student comes first

Every decision is tested against one question: does this help a student who is stuck right now? If it only helps us, it waits.

  2. 2

From the book, never a guess

Our product refuses to make things up. So do we — in code reviews, in sales calls and in what we promise a school.

  3. 3

    Ship, then verify

A feature is done when it has been checked against a real textbook and a real user — not when the pull request merges.

  4. 4

    Write it down

We are a small, distributed team. Decisions, mistakes and lessons go into the docs so that the next person does not repeat them.

  5. 5

    Teachers are allies

We build tools that give teachers their evenings back, not tools that replace them. That shapes every feature we make.

How we hire

Four steps, no surprises

The whole process usually takes two to three weeks. You will know where you stand at every step.

  1. Step 1

    Apply by email

Send the items listed on the role page. We reply to every application, usually within five working days.

  2. Step 2

    A 30-minute introduction call

We tell you honestly what the role and the company are like; you tell us about your work. Both sides decide whether to continue.

  3. Step 3

    A short practical exercise

Engineering: a small take-home task (two to four hours, on something close to our real work). Partnerships: a short role-play of a call with a principal.

  4. Step 4

Conversation with the founder, then an offer

A final conversation about expectations on both sides. If we both say yes, you receive a written offer letter with every term spelled out.

Candidate FAQ

Questions people ask before applying

Is eSkolr a registered company?

Yes. eSkolr operates from its registered office at 2nd Floor, MCF No. 375-378, Maharaja Agrasain Plaza, Ambedkar Chowk, Ballabgarh, Faridabad, Haryana 121004, and holds a D-U-N-S® number (307041725). Every engagement is documented in a written offer or engagement letter.

Are the roles remote?

Engineering roles are fully remote within India, working Indian Standard Time hours. School Partnership roles are field roles in your own city, with the rest of the work done remotely.

Will I be paid during the internship?

Yes. Internships carry a monthly stipend, paid by bank transfer, and the amount is stated on the role page and in your offer letter. There are no unpaid internships at eSkolr.

What does “performance-linked” mean for the partnership role?

There is no fixed salary; you earn a commission for every school you introduce that becomes a paying customer, plus milestone rewards. The exact plans and worked examples are shared in writing before you sign anything, and associates who perform consistently are offered a full-time salaried role.

What will I actually work on as an engineer?

Real product problems, not a sandbox: see “Problems you would work on” above. Interns ship to production under review from week two or three, after a guided first task.

I don’t see a role that fits. Can I still apply?

Yes — send an open application with your CV and a few lines on what you would like to do for eSkolr. We keep strong profiles on file and reach out when a matching role opens.

What happens to my application data?

We use it only to assess your application, share it only with the people involved in hiring, and keep it for up to 12 months in case a suitable role opens. Email us at any time and we will delete it.

Equal opportunity

eSkolr hires on ability and attitude. We do not discriminate on the basis of gender, religion, caste, region, language, age, disability, marital status or any other characteristic protected by law. If you need an adjustment at any stage of the process, tell us and we will make it.

Your application data

Anything you send us is used only to assess your application, is seen only by the people involved in hiring, and is kept for up to 12 months. Email [email protected] at any time to have it deleted. See our Privacy Policy.

Think you could help a student at 10 pm?

Pick a role, send what it asks for, and a person will write back within five working days.
